Case study · Bespoke illuminated signage

Table du Marché signage

North Finchley · French restaurant

Matt Black manufactured and installed a bespoke illuminated restaurant sign for Table du Marché in North Finchley, London, using a fret-cut tray, opal acrylic, translucent gold vinyl and LEDs.

The details that make it familiar.

Khalid wanted a replacement sign for Table du Marché, his French restaurant in North Finchley. The brief was to stay true to the restaurant’s existing identity: its logo, its colours and the character of its materials.

We worked through those details together over a series of discussions, considering how the new sign would look both during the day and when illuminated. Getting the gold and grey right was central to the project.

01 / Colour & materials

Finding the right gold.
Matching the grey.

After exploring the options with Khalid, we settled on a Mactac translucent gold material applied to opal acrylic. This gave us the gold face the design needed while allowing the light behind it to shine through.

The grey was equally specific. We sourced the chosen shade from Perspex Distribution to keep the new sign in keeping with the restaurant’s branding and the surrounding frontage.

02 / Manufacture

Built to illuminate.

We manufactured a fret-cut sign tray, with the lettering and logo cut into the face. Opal acrylic sat behind the cut-outs, with LEDs installed behind the acrylic and the translucent gold vinyl applied to its face.

The opal acrylic diffuses the light, while the gold film gives the illuminated lettering its colour. Together, the layers bring the existing logo into a new illuminated sign.

03 / Installation

Working around the awning.

The biggest challenge was access. The restaurant’s existing awning sat directly beneath the sign, restricting the space needed to install the new tray.

We removed the awning so we could fit the sign, then refitted it. While it was accessible, we also serviced and cleaned the awning, taking care of that part of the frontage alongside the signage work.

Installation involved removing the existing awning to access the sign tray, then servicing, cleaning and refitting it.

A familiar identity, freshly presented.

The finished sign brings together Table du Marché’s original logo, carefully selected gold and grey, and LED illumination. With the awning serviced and cleaned, the frontage retains the character Khalid wanted while giving the restaurant a fresh sign for both daytime and evening service.
